X International Eclogite Conference
Courmayeur, Italy, September 2-10, 2013
For some 30 years the International Eclogite Conference has been an outstanding scientific meeting. Its focus has been on research activities carried out by the International Union of Geological Sciences (International Lithosphere Program, Task Force IV: Ultra-Deep Continental Crust Subduction project).
Researchers from all over the world will report on geological processes related to the formation of mountain chains, especially those connected to the subduction of both the ocean- and continent-derived lithosphere, where high-pressure (HP) and ultra high-pressure (UHP) metamorphic rocks re-equilibrated at eclogite facies conditions.
The X IEC will take place at Courmayeur (1224 m), a lovely town in the Aosta Valley, with spectacular views of the south flank of Mont Blanc. The conference program comprises:
i) three days devoted to scientific sessions, in which interdisciplinary research on eclogite-facies metamorphism is presented, emphasizing aspects of mineralogy, petrology, geology, geodynamics, geochemistry, geochronology, and numerical modeling; ii) pre-, syn- and post-conference scientific excursions in the Western Alps to illustrate in the field representative rocks and sections exhumed by post-subduction processes.
We thrive to make your participation at the X IEC worthwhile and your visit to the Western Alps enjoyable.
